Green Turtle Cay is a relaxed Bahama out-island with a meandering coastline, deep bays and sounds, and delightful beaches, including the 3/4-mile stretch of immaculate private beachfront that accents the Linton’s Beach property. Soak up the views of neighboring islands, coral outcroppings, lavish foliage and abundant wildlife. The crystal clear waters, inner and outer reefs and lush coral gardens make for exceptional sea life – a real treat for diving, fishing and shelling excursions.

Explore this 3.5 mile long island, and the quaint village of New Plymouth by foot, bike or golf cart. Or simply laze about one of the many delightful beaches, digging your toes in the warm white sand and collecting sea shells.

Located on one end of the island, the village of New Plymouth (population 500) is the first designated historical landmark in the out-islands of the Bahamas. It is a picturesque, prosperous town settled during the Revolutionary War by Loyalists from the Carolinas. You will admire its sense of tradition and pride, and will find here a range of supplies and services, from sundries and souvenirs to clothing, shoes and foodstuffs.

Religious life continues to be a New Plymouth priority, with an abundance of quaint churches for worship. Several local drinking establishments offer refuge of another sort, along with the opportunity to mingle with colorful local inhabitants.

Access to New Plymouth from Linton’s Cottages involves a 15-minute walk on paved thoroughfare, a five-minute boat road from harbour to harbour. Or, you may pedal there on one of Linton’s well-worn and weathered cruiser bikes. If you prefer, we would be happy to reserve a golf cart from a local provider (please notify us at the time of booking, to assure that one will be available).

The post office keeps regular hours, but the village’s only banking service, Barclay’s International Limited, is open for a few hours only on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, so plan accordingly. Travelers checks are accepted at all stores and may be traded for cash. Personal checks are not accepted, nor will they be honored at the bank; Linton’s, however, accepts personal checks for optional excursions or services (the caretaker will present an itemized bill at the end of your stay) and for gratuities.

The currency exchange rate is just about even, but you will want to spend your Bahamian dollars before leaving because the exchange rate back in the U.S. will be disappointing.

The island's expert fishing guides will provide rods, reels and bait, if hired for a full or half day of reef, bone or spear fishing. Should you have any equipment of your own you might enjoy having it here with you. Fishing excursions can be prearranged if you will let us know of your interests as soon as possible.

Snorkeling and diving are major activities and any masks, snorkels and flippers that you have should certainly be packed. If you do not own any equipment or have an incomplete supply, we strongly suggest that you purchase a complete set to bring with you. Its frequent use and your enjoyment will make it worth the investment.
